Nissan Stadium, BNA Updates, & More

Your guide to staying connected in Franklin, TN

Happy Thursday, Franklin!

Hopefully you've already filed your taxes and are breathing easy this week. But if you haven't, you're actually in luck. The IRS originally extended the federal tax deadline to May 22 for taxpayers in 23 counties impacted by January's Winter Storm Fern, including Williamson, Davidson, and Rutherford counties. Then just yesterday, the IRS expanded that relief even further to all 95 Tennessee counties and pushed the deadline to June 8. The extension is automatic for Tennessee residents, so no extra paperwork needed. Consider it one small silver lining from January's ice storm.

New Nissan Stadium Progress
Construction on the new Nissan Stadium officially reached the 75 percent completion mark at the end of March. Carrying a price tag of about $2.2 billion, the stadium is scheduled to open in February 2027, with concerts and other events expected before the Titans' first season in the new venue later that fall.

Crews are averaging about 2,000 workers a day on site, and progress is visible across nearly every part of the building. On the exterior, just 45 of the 1,185 glass panels remain before the curtain wall system is complete, and 34 of 71 fan entry doors have been installed. Metal panel cladding along the outside has reached 50% completion, and stone panels have started going up around elevator and stair cores.

As fans fill the current Nissan Stadium for concerts and events this spring, they'll only have to look about 100 feet away to see the progress being made and start imagining what 2027 will bring.

BNA Updates
British Airways landed its A350-1000 at Nashville International Airport in early April, making it the largest passenger plane ever scheduled to arrive at BNA. The upgrade from the Boeing 777-200ER adds 59 more seats on the direct London Heathrow route and reflects growing international demand for Nashville.

Meanwhile, BNA's pedestrian bridge underwent temporary closures in April to facilitate enhancements as part of the New Horizon expansion program, which will help BNA support 40 million annual passengers in the future. More capacity on international flights and a bigger, better airport on the way, which is good news for Franklin travelers, though you may want to allow a few extra minutes at BNA during construction.

Hooky Entertainment Opening at Nashville Yards
Hooky Entertainment will open its 50,000-square-foot experiential entertainment venue and cinema at Nashville Yards on April 29. The venue will feature seven premium cinema auditoriums with velvet couch-style seating and full-service in-theater dining, including a chef-driven menu and craft cocktails. Beyond the theaters, guests can explore a 15,000-square-foot arcade with more than 48 classic and interactive games, such as electric shuffleboard and virtual darts, plus a bowling alley with eight full-length lanes.

Two full-service cocktail bars round out the experience, with a see-through bar overlooking the bowling lanes. The venue will be open daily from 10 a.m. to midnight with extended hours on weekends and offers up to three hours of complimentary parking with validation. This is a big deal for the area… it brings a movie theater back to downtown Nashville for the first time in years and gives Franklin families and couples a major new entertainment destination just up I-65.

Double Arch Bridge Closing for Nearly a Year
The Double Arch Bridge on the Natchez Trace Parkway near Franklin closed on April 15 as crews begin installing a permanent pedestrian safety barrier. The bridge will be closed to vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists through Spring 2027. The parkway will be closed between Big Tree Overlook at milepost 440 and the Highway 96 off-ramp at milepost 437, with a 7.5-mile detour available during the closure. Cyclists are urged to plan accordingly. For a longer distance ride, cyclists can park at the Highway 96 off-ramp and ride south of milepost 437. If you use the Trace for commuting, biking, or weekend drives, this is going to be a significant change for the next year-plus.
