Olympic soccer is coming to Nashville
Nashville has been selected as one of six U.S. host cities for the 2028 Olympic soccer tournament, with matches set to be played at Geodis Park, home of Nashville SC. Other host cities include New York City, Columbus, St. Louis, San José, and San Diego, with gold medal matches held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

This is a big moment for Nashville and a nod to the city’s growing reputation on the global soccer stage. Leaders point to Nashville’s experience hosting major international matches and its strong relationship with FIFA as key factors in the selection. The announcement also strengthens Nashville’s case to host future events, including the 2031 Women’s World Cup, and follows the city being chosen as a home base for Japan’s national team during the 2026 World Cup.

While details on the number of matches and which teams will play here have not been announced yet, the economic upside is clear. An Olympic event is expected to bring thousands of visitors to the city, giving a boost to hotels, restaurants, and local businesses. The 2028 Summer Olympics will take place in Los Angeles from July 14 to July 30.

People from all over the world are about to learn about hot chicken.

Breakfast with the Mayors
Williamson County leaders met yesterday at the Breakfast with the Mayors event, and discussed recovery efforts following Winter Storm Fern and what lies ahead for the area. City and county officials praised utility crews and public works teams for keeping disruptions to a minimum, with most communities avoiding major issues related to power, water, or emergency services. Cleanup efforts are now underway across the county and are expected to continue over the coming weeks.

Several key infrastructure and funding items were also discussed. Franklin leaders are considering a hotel-motel tax increase and a major bond to support projects like the new City Hall, while local and county officials continue pushing for additional state-shared revenue to help address traffic congestion and road improvements. Thompson’s Station shared plans for park upgrades, road widening projects, and early steps toward forming the town’s first police department.

Growth challenges were another major topic. Spring Hill’s sewer moratorium is already slowing new development until capacity improvements are completed, while Nolensville faces ongoing financial pressure tied to capital projects and a pending legal appeal over impact fees. County Mayor Rogers Anderson also noted that completing his final budget cycle remains a top priority as he prepares to retire later this year.
